Open Letter to Mr. Charles Ogbu

WRITTEN By
Comr.Felix C Onyemachi

Dear Charles,
I know this letter will not meet you as a surprise package but just to enlighten you on why Biafrans should not partake on any election taking place in Nigeria. I do not mean any harm to your character but l am only here to respond to your published article on Sahara Reporters Media. I am always delighted to read your articles but your recent article on “WHY IGBO YOUTHS MUST NOT BOYCOTT ELECTION IN ALAIGBO” looks like you were forced to write in order to appease your “pay masters”.

I must confess that l was delighted with your first paragraph where you acknowledged that IPOB agitations have helped in bringing the marginalisation of the Igbos to both local and international scrutiny. Unfortunately, l was very much eager and enthusiastic to be convinced why Igbo youths must not boycott election in Alaigbo for which, to the best of my knowledge, you failed woefully.

However, in your subsequent line, you complained about the inability of IPOB members to identify with the opinions of non-IPOB members for which you detaste. In this case, you have contradicted yourself because you are trying to impose your opinion on IPOB to participate and vote in the 2019 Nigerian elections. I must let you know that no man has the monopoly of wisdom.. The decision to boycott any Nigerian election by IPOB members in Biafra land is not an individual opinion. IPOB members have considered both the advantages and disadvantages of boycotting election and have come out with the view that the advantages outweighed the disadvantages.

Since you could not convince me on why Igbo Youths must not Boycott Election in Alaigbo, l will be glad to tutor you on why we must boycott the 2019 election in Biafra  land. The only reason you gave on why you want every Igbo youth to participate in the 2019 election is to vote out Jubril Aminu, who is presently impersonating the late President Muhammadu Buhari, the former President of Nigeria. One of your reasons of voting him out is that Jubril is a tyrant, and he has killed many IPOB members. If that is a genuine reason, it follows that the five eastern governors must also be voted out because they initiated the killings, proscription and the tagging of IPOB members as terrorists.

In your article, you accused IPOB members of not balancing emotion (Passionate Commitment) with reason. Unfortunately, you are being more emotionally attached to Peter Obi and Atiku than Jubril. Although, Jubril is presently the worst enemy to IPOB members but how are you sure that Atiku will not change, the moment he holds on to political power?. What is the difference between Atiku and Buhari?

Atiku and Peter Obi have promised to restructure Nigeria if they win 2019 election. Mr. Charles, have you asked Atiku and Obi how they plan to restructure Nigeria? Is it by a brand new constitution or by amending the existing “rogue” document called Nigerian Constitution? If they say it is brand new, how can they do it without violating the oath they took? If they say it is by amendment, how will they satisfy the conditions stated in section-9 of that “rogue” constitution?

IPOB was officially proscribed and tagged terrorist organisation by the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Being tagged as terrorists, IPOB members are the one enemy to the Nigerian military. Terrorists don’t vote in any election and likewise, you don’t expect IPOB members to participate in a country’s election where they are seen as terrors. IPOB has been playing safe since the Nigerian government tagged it a terrorist organisation. There is an Igbo adage which says “Onye Ndi Iro gbara gburu gburu na eche ndu ya nche), meaning “when you are surrounded by enemies, you need to watch over your life”.

The Nigerian military is looking for any loophole to pin down any IPOB member. So many events have taken place in Nigeria where IPOB members were not involved, but the Nigeria military, out of hatred, accused them of being participators. For instance, police arrested 19 IPOB members on the 14th of September, 2018 in Rivers State and accused them of burning 15 Trucks. Around November 2018, protesting Nnewi traders shut down markets over arrest of 33 members by the police and paraded them as suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Mr. Charles, do you want IPOB members to be killed by the Nigerian military for participating in the Nigerian election?

You also accused IPOB members of not respecting Ohaneze Ndi Igbo and the South east governors. How could one trust a leadership (Ohaneze Ndi Igbo) that always speaks from both sides of its mouth? I can vividly remember them saying “We, Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, have already made it clear that we are not interested in the Presidency or Vice Presidency unless you restructure Nigeria”. The moment Peter Obi was appointed by Atiku as the running mate; Ohaneze Ndi Igbo became “Articulated”

It is essential to state categorically that election is not the solution to the problem of the Biafran people. We have been electing people to political offices, but this has only brought untold sufferings and hunger to the people. Elections in Biafra land have only produced servants to the Hausa/Fulani Oligarchy and those who feed on crumbs from their table. It is IPOB's determination to restore Biafra republic where her people will have greater freedom and accommodation.
