Biafra Referendum is sacrosanct, marks the end of suffering and persecution in our land

BIAFRA RESTORATION IS THE END TO DESTRUCTION OF LIVES AND PROPERTY IN THE OLD EASTERN REGION

Biafrans are the people living in the old eastern part of Nigeria. These are people who share the same culture, religion, value system and the rest of them.  These people occupy the Old Eastern region of Nigeria which is now known as southeast,  south-south and some part of the middle belt.  The war which lasted 30 months (almost three years ) took the lives of millions of Biafrans. Many people especially children died of hunger and kwashiorkor.  This war took the lives of over two million people from 6th of July 1967 to 15th January 1970.

Ever since then, many groups and individuals have been agitating for the restoration of BIAFRA, but there emerged a very powerful group that has been at the forefront of this move since 2012. This group started in Malaysia and broadcasted from London with its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a young man from Afara Ibeku Umuahia Abia State. He is also a British citizen. He has been arrested twice and tortured mercilessly by the Nigerian government. First was in Olusegun Obasanjo's regime and second is in this present Muhammadu Buhari's regime. This young man has proven to be fearless even in the presence of his enemies and adversity. Below are some of the reasons Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) is agitating for Biafra referendum;

*  FREEDOM IS GOD- GIVEN RIGHT
Freedom of God, not man-made, is a right given by God himself.
According to Emma Powerful, the media spokesperson of IPOB, "we are fighting for  Biafra, because freedom is our God-given right, and the restoration of Biafra sovereignty,  which Fedrick Lugard, the British  mercenary soldier abused and defiled is our utmost priority, which our fathers fought for in 1967 and 1970 that was surrendered with the slogan of no Victor no vanquish ".

It is on record and a verifiable fact that July 29,1996, coup led by Lieutenant-colonel Murtala Muhammed and several other northern officers saw the deadly destruction of the Igbo people. It was gathered that not less than 30,000 Igbos were killed. People like Major General J. T. U Aguiyi Ironsi who was the then military head of state and some other top military men of Igbo extraction were killed.

Also, series of killing of her people by the northerners,  first in the 1945 and 1953 massacre at Jos and Kano respectively had taken place before the coup.

IPOB also said through its spokesperson Emma Powerful that "we are fighting the raping of our mothers, sisters, and daughters in our homes and farms by stinking nomads who disguise as cattle breeders and herdsmen ".

* TO END ATTACKS ON ON RELIGIOUS PLACES.

IPOB  said, "we are fighting for Biafra to end the unprovoked killings of our people in every well mentioned religious Crisis and bombing in far away Denmark of which the Biafrans are targeted in their place of worship, because of their religion and faith ".
It is also important to note that most of the killings and violence in Nigeria are religious oriented. A crystal  example  is 25th December  Christmas bombing at
St. Theresa’s Church, Madalla, in Suleja, Niger State.

TO AVOID HARASSMENT AND ATTACKS FROM THE  MILITARY.

The military in Nigeria keeps harassing Biafrans on daily basis, an example is a torture and inhumane treatment given to any Biafran found with material with Biafra insignia on it.
The group said through its spokesperson, "we are fighting for Biafra where everyone will have freedom of expression and peaceful assembly without being killed by the Armed Forces who cannot counter-terrorism".

* TO PROVIDE SOCIAL AMENITIES FOR OUR PEOPLE.

IPOB is fighting for the restoration of our dear nation so that everything will be put in the right place.
There will be good roads, 24 hours electricity supply,  good and potable water, and even improvement in the security system

* PROVISION OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

The level of unemployment in Nigeria is alarming. Our youths graduate from the higher institutions and start roaming down the streets in search of a job and most of them indulge in crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping.
We want to abolish this when Biafra comes. There will be job provision for almost everyone.

The only way all these can be achieved is through the intervention of the International community and the United Nations.
The United Nations should intervene in this case and conduct a violent-free, credible, free and fair referendum in Nigeria because the right to self-determination is an international(UN) law which Nigeria is a signatory to.
It is also enshrined in the amalgamation treaty that any region that wants to break away after 100 years can do so, Nigeria is 104 years now, we are due to secede.
