Nigeria will divide if nothing is done quickly - OBJ

Former Nigeria President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria have warned that the country risks division if the people failed to renegotiate how it wants to move ahead as one united entity.

Obasanjo said this while speaking at the 7th convocation lecture of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, in Abuja.

He insisted that the country must continue to renegotiate its unity and give a listening ear to the complaints of all ethnic groups in the country.

Doing this, according to him, will give the country’s various ethnic nationalities a sense of belonging thus enhancing their effective participation in its socio-economic discussions and national development.

The former Nigerian leader added that he believed that such periodic discussions will provide opportunity for all stakeholders to ventilate their views, grievances and possibly provide superior arguments, solutions or ideas that could positively challenge the existing practices.

Also speaking at the event, the guest lecturer and Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Prof. Eghosa Osaghe, whose lecture theme was on: “Restructuring and True Federalism: Nigeria in Perspective”, said the country had come of age to reshape itself in line with modern-day reality, insisting that it can no longer shy away from addressing the growing call for restructuring in some quarters.

According to him, the existing federal system of government practiced in Nigeria needed additional deliberate arrangements that require intricate deals, trade-offs and reciprocities to build and sustain.

  1. You have all started to wake up from your drunken sleep. Nnamdi Kanu started to call for this conversation prior to Buhari "winning the 2015 election " and you called his statements hate speech. Some said that Kanu's call for change of direction was mischief making. On agitation for Biafra, OBJ said that "Biafra was dead and buried" and called agitators jobless miscreants. Look who is now talking. I can never take OBJ serious because he is part of the problem and can never be part of a solution. He, OBJ left his party (PDP) from where he became president, and moved to another Party (APC) because he feared that he might be probed by Buhari new administration. OBJ, Fashola, Tinubu and a host of Yorubas helped Buhari to power. It was these same people and their forefathers that joined forces with Hausa Fulanis to fight the Biafrans, murdered and starved us to death in the millions. These same people that provided the intellectual argument and backing; through their largely controlled media to alienate and marginalize Biafrans. So why should I take you and new found call for conversation /rethinking of Nigeria serious. If the truth must be told, Yorubas cannot be trusted. The conversation should be allowing Biafrans to peacefully go their own way, and Yorubas to go their own way, and the North, of course by a well UN supervised referendum. The peoples that make up the country called Nigeria are not one united people and can never be. The country called Nigeria has failed beyond repair and must be peacefully dissolved. Anything short of this is will not work. Let the Biafrans to go end of !
