An ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Wednesday reacted to the allegation by ex-Military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, that late Odumegu Ojukwu, the great Biafra warlord, caused the Biafra civil war.
Fani-Kayode, describing Gowon's Claim as false, held that Ojukwu told no lie about what transpired in Aburi, rather, it was Yakubu Gowon, the then military head of state, after agreeing to all the terms, upon his return from Ghana, that reneged on the agreement reached Aburi leading to the brutal civil war.
In a tweet on his Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode wrote: “Gen. Yakubu Gowon, an elder statesman who I revere, said Ojukwu caused the civil war by lying about what transpired in Aburi.
“This is false. Ojukwu told no lie. Gowon agreed to all the terms in Aburi but when he got home he reneged on the agreement. This is what led to the civil war.”
Yakubu Gowon had alleged that Ojukwu caused the Biafra civil war of 1967-1970 by lying about what transpired in Aburi.
Gowon spoke on AIT's programme, 'People, Politics and Power' and claimed that he felt feverish after his return to Nigeria from Ghana, hence could not broadcast their resolutions in Aburi. He claimed that Ojukwu took advantage of his fever and announced lies about what transpired in Ghana.
