Why Nigeria's Pact With France Against Biafra Is A Failed Attempt
French President Francois Hollndes Shaking Hands with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in Paris

On Sunday, 12th of March, 2017, it appeared in the media that the Nigerian state has ventured to lobby France to stand against a Biafran state. The news appeared with a caption "No future for Biafra - says French envoy" on the Guardian.

Among other pacts, the envoy implied that they had since 2015 signed agreement with the Nigerian state to supply weapons to  Nigeria should the Biafrans exit Nigeria; by implication: to support Nigeria against Biafra should war situation arise. So as it stands now, Nigeria has unrestricted inflow of weaponry from France to shoot down any Biafran that raises his or her activist head.

The French envoy revealed on-going training courses given by the French government to the Nigerian army both home and abroad and how France has become a strong ally to Nigeria as well as urging all African countries to join.

By interpretation, the French government has been training Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria army uniforms to unleash terror against pro-Biafran activists who pose no threat to anyone. It is the French government that intensified the brutality instincts in the Boko Haram Nigeria army as they have quickly delivered on the expectations of France and Nigeria.

According to Guardian news, the envoy posited the following: “Apart from encouraging neighbouring African countries to cooperate with Nigeria we have also developed a strong bilateral relationship with the Nigerian Armed forces.  In May 2015, the Defence Ministers of Nigeria and France signed a cooperation agreement between the two armed forces, which we did not have before. Since September last year, we have two French military officers who are liaison officers with the Nigerian Armed Forces to work on daily basis with them in furtherance of the cooperation. We are organising training activities for the Nigerian Armed Forces both in France, Senegal and here in Nigeria."

“I can confirm to you that we are now very close allies to the Nigerian Armed Forces..." said the France envoy.

By implication, as soon as Buhari assumed power on 29th May, 2015, he couldn't wait signing a pact with the French government and his target was how to quell the  Biafran agitation.

And disappointedly, France gave in without much thoughts on the implication of supporting Nigeria against Biafra. And not only that but also urging others to join in.

May I bring to the awareness of France that Biafra is ordained by God and any attempt to scuttle the restoration of Biafra spells doom on the perpetrators and the French government would not want to be a part of such.

The French government should have looked beyond the oil benefits received from the Nigerian government, the oil which is actually from Biafraland and beheld the sufferings of the Old Eastern part of Nigeria before venturing into the regrettable pact with the Nigerian state: France shouldn't have been beclouded by their economic interests but should have seen how Biafrans are marginalized and abused.

It is a shame and utter loss of integrity for a country like France, which should have been protecting human rights, to now be the one supporting and sponsoring abusers of such rights.

Recall that France's "Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen" constituted a major part of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is regrettable to hear that France which had influenced and inspired rights-based liberal democracy throughout the world which is based on the rule of law in  an open society and the equal protection of human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, and political freedoms  for all people, is now the one taking this shameful path of dishonour, casting aspersions on their hard-earned integrity.

It is unfortunate that France which had such high profile of respect and integrity amassed from long term consolidation of democracy, respect for human rights, rule of law and political freedoms, could stoop so low as to venture into a pact with Nigeria to undermine the rights of human and indigenous people which they are part of whom declared such rights in UN. And they are doing so because of economic interest, oil.

By this unfortunate position of France on independence of Biafra, it fortifies the assertion that the UN declaration of indigenous people's rights to pursue political independence idea they wish is really a sham.

But may I announce to the French government and others that are supporting Nigeria against Biafra that they are treading on the wrong path at the wrong time because the minds of Biafrans are made up and more importantly, Biafrans have found back their Creator who supports their course. So with or without the support of France, Biafra shall be restored.

  1. We honor and fear God and God only, if only France knew what they are in for they would rather stay clear or warn Nigeria government to let go of Biafra quickly, the earth is the Lord and the fullest thereof, it does not belong to France or any country on earth; but if i may advice you France, go drink some wine and go to sleep. Ask your Bible scholars regarding God you'll be equally advised same thing back off!
