President Muhamadu Buhari |
Leader of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike said the struggle for the actualisation of Biafra Republic is near, as the President Muhammadu Buhari is under immense pressure from the international community to grant the people their wish for a separate country.
The Igbo leader said despite the Operation Python Dance which has witnessed the heavy deployment of armed soldiers in the South East, the non-violent agitation for the independent state of Biafra would continue.
BIM, in a press statement issued in Owerri, yesterday, and signed by its Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha stated that it would be foolish for any person or group of persons to think that the issue of Biafra could be forgotten.
He said the president was jittery because the issue of Biafra is currently being discussed at the United Nations and in many western countries.
“Buhari is under international pressure to let Biafra go and he has no option,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) said it has concluded arrangements to hold seminar for youths in Biafraland.
The Director General, Organisation of Biafra Music and Film Authority (OBMFA), David Chinedu Eboson said the leader of MASSOB, Chief Solomon Chukwu would use the seminar which comes up on January 25 to sensitise the youths on what he described as non-violence and non-exodus pattern of life.
Chukwu, according to the statement said: “We do not deserve Biafra if it will not be better than Nigeria. Biafra youths will be given training on what has been perceived to be the stumbling block to Biafra freedom.
“MASSOB zonal leaders all over Biafra should be ready for the seminar which will also focus on how to revive industries, science and technology, agriculture and the health sector in Biafra land.”
Chukwu berated some leaders from the region who he claimed hobnobbed with the Nigerian government.
He restated the claim that Niger Delta region was part of Biafra.
MASSOB condemned a statement credited to former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav that MASSOB is a violent agitation group.
He pointed out that the current Operation Python Dance and Eagle Eye launched by the Nigerian Army in both South East and Niger Delta would fail like previous exercises in the past. He stressed that all the military operations targeted on its defenceless members had only brought shame, condemnation and mockery on Nigeria.
