Sit at home: Igbo govs upset as IPOB shuts down south-east, PH

- IPOB commends Biafrans for successful sit at home

By Uchechi Collins

Yesterday’s sit-at-home order issued by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to mark the invasion of the home of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during the Operation Python Dance II in Umuahia, Abia State and the continuous arrest and killing of IPOB members, recorded huge success in many parts of Igboland. The sit at home fully paralyzed economic and social activities in the old eastern region.

In Anambra, all the markets, streets shops, banks, and schools were shut down. Our correspondent who monitored the situation observed that Onitsha main market and others major markets in the city were deserted as young boys were seen playing football on the streets, major roads like the ever busy upper Iweka road and parks in the markets. The ever-busy old motor spare parts market, Ugwuagba Obosi, Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, Old and New Motor Spare Markets, Nkpor, and Nkpor Main market all remained shut as well as the deserted popular Onitsha main bridge.

Owerri, Imo state was another state that took a big hit from the order as schools, banks, and business centers were on lockdown, photos and videos of deserted locations flood the internet, as early as 7 am there was almost no single person seen on the ever busy Owerri - Portharcourt road, transport companies were shut down, school teachers who went to school left as there was no pupil to teach, banks were seen closed despite strict warning from the Imo state authority prior to the general strike day.

Aba, Abia was reported to have recorded high percentage compliance, major markets like Ariaria international and other popular lines were also affected by the order, nothing virtually functioned as the sit at home crippled the entire city and its environs. Aba was said to have recorded huge success of the exercise with a massive 97 percent compliance.

Ebonyi state was also not left out of the exercise, motorways, markets, schools and business places was seen shut down at around 11:23 am,

Enugu, Rivers and Akwa Ibom and Calabar also recorded successful sit at home, major municipals recorded over 70 percent as photos of these areas flooded facebook showing deserted towns and villages.

However, the success of the exercise sends a chilled signal to the S/E governors who earlier issued threats to IPOB not to embark on the strike action, reports came in later in the day alleging the governors are wary of the compliance and seeking to bribe news media and journalists not to publish the devastating facts of the successful exercise,  they were said to promise huge sums of money to journalists not to write or publish the truth. This alert came at around 15:00 hrs from a reliable source who asked for the news to be shared widely in a bid to alert the world on a ploy to falsify the results of the successful exercise by IPOB.
