       HOW BUHARI AND DSS HAVE MADE A MOCKERY OF DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA

With great pains in my heart and in the hearts of Biafrans all over the world, I write this piece to you, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL please come to the rescue of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, and see how their rights have been violated continually by President Muhamadu Buhari and his Directorate of State Services, DSS, in Nigeria.

The Nigerian state zeroed into democracy in 1999 to bring freedom to the people and put an end to the human rights abuses characterized by her military tyranny and dictatorial tendencies which were also very visible in the era of General Muhamadu Buhari  back in 1985.

But since 1999 till date Nigeria has proven to be very far away from any form of democracy especially since General Muhamadu Buhari returned to power with his Tyrannic characteristic personality of contempt to the constitution he swore to uphold, disobedience to constituted authorities he vowed to obey and negligence to due procedures he promised to observe.

He has abused the rights of innocent civilians in the country especially The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by directing his DSS to kidnap and arrest any activist that wants Biafra to be separated from the Nigerian state.

One might wonder if these acts of Buhari and DSS are true reflection of democracy as practised by countries like Britain, USA and others!

I wonder whether the security agencies of the above-mentioned countries kidnap and kill the citizens the way DSS and Buhari do

The Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) was founded in 1986 and was saddled with the responsibility of protecting and defending the Federal Republic of Nigeria against domestic threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of Nigeria, and to provide leadership and criminal justice services to both federal and state law-enforcement organs.

The SSS (DSS)  is also charged with the protection of the President, Vice President, Governors and other top-ranking officials, their immediate families, past presidents and their spouses.

But the DSS is not given any right to abuse the rights of any citizen either physically or psychologically, neither to kidnap innocent civilians in the middle of the night and secretly execute them simply because they are the opposition of agitating for self-determination.

The DSS are not made to be terrorists terrorizing and intimidating the  people. Neither were they made to be the harassing tool the presidency should use to deal with his political enemies and critics.

The constitution of Nigeria allows peaceful assembly and association but prohibits human rights abuses. But unfortunately, the rights of the people are heavily violated on a daily basis.

The Nigerian government supports peaceful agitations of self-determination as she co-signed the 2007 UN charters on the rights of Indigenous People. But she goes ahead to violate these resolutions.

Amnesty International, may I bring to your notice, the evil that these men called DSS Officials have been perpetrating against the people of the Old Eastern region by kidnapping the members of IPOB.

On 26th August 2016, the DSS kidnapped the following IPOB members and took them to unknown destinations namely:  Ikechukwu Ugwuoha, Asochukwu Ugochukwu, Sunday J. Okafor, Joseph Okorie Ekene Onuoha.

They also kidnapped Mazi Obasi Chucks Sunday at his residential home, Nnewi Ichi Anambra state on 17th August 2016 to an unknown destination.

We implore you, Amnesty International, to investigate these unscrupulous acts of the DSS and President Muhamadu Buhari so that these cold, secret and silent abductions, kidnaps and executions of IPOB members would stop.

We also ask you to protect our rights to peaceful assembly and association which are currently being violated.

We ask you to remind the Nigerian state led by Muhamadu Buhari that the self-determination rights of Indigenous People as resolved by the United Nations, UN, which she ( the Nigeria government) is a signatory to is still valid.
