– Nigerian Army calls on Nigerians to be vigilant following the release of Abubakar Shekau’s new video – Vows to continue with its operations against insurgents in the northeast in spite of the purported remorse demonstrated by the Boko Haram leader – Commends all officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices, determination and courage to degrade the terrorists The Nigerian Army has warned that the new video allegedly released by the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, may be an attempt by the terrorist group to catch innocent Nigerians off guard.

According to The Tribune, the army is a statement on Thursday, March 24 by the director of information, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar in Abuja dismissed the new video saying it could be another ploy or antics of the terrorists to keep innocent citizens off their current security alertness to maximize casualties if attacked.

Gen Abubakar urged members of the public not to be carried away by the video clips, but to be extra vigilant and be security conscious at all times especially during the Easter celebrations. He said the army will continue with its operations against insurgents in the northeast in spite of the purported remorse demonstrated by Boko Haram leader in the online video.

Abubakar said: “Public is also reminded to report any suspicious strange faces, movement and object to the nearest security agency so as to counter any unholy plans of the Godless terrorist group,” he said. “While the Nigerian Military would not rest until all the remnants of the terrorist group are completely wiped out of our blessed land, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, wishes to commend all officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices, determination and courage to degrade the terrorists and task them to complete the good job they have started soonest in line with our rules of engagement.

This warning by the army comes after it said it was subjecting the purported new video from Abubakar Shekau to forensic examinations in order to ascertain its authenticity

Many Nigerians angered by the colossal destruction, the estimated 20,000 people who have been killed and the over 1.5million people displaced the Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency have called for more punitive action to be taken against the Boko Haram leader.
