Exposed: Osinbajo's Meeting With Some Media Practitioners In Nigeria, The Cause Of Fake And False Reportage Of IPOB Events
There have been records of false reportage of IPOB events in recent time.

The PUNCH newspaper had falsely reported a disruption of IPOB rally held in Owerri, Imo state capital, on 28th July 2017, with the news headline, "Youth oppose Kanu, disrupt rally".

In that false report, PUNCH concocted some non-existent bodies, some unpopular group of hungry elements and some unknown organisations and alleged that they confronted Nnamdi Kanu and disrupted the rally he attended.

The bodies were: "One Nigeria Group" headed by Mr. Azunnaya Andrew which allegedly said "One Nigeria Group stands for Nigeria’s oneness. We totally condemn the pro-Biafra rally in Owerri, conducted by one Nnamdi Kanu.”

Also "Imo Council of Youths" chaired by Jeff Nwoha; "Nigeria Youths Unity Group" coordinated by Emeka Igwe; "Youth Assembly of Nigeria" represented by Samuel Godstime, jointly held that "rather than go for Biafra, youths in the South-East wanted restructuring."

Finally, former militants in the state represented by Ohimili Arinze, said, "We don’t want to hear anything like Biafra in Imo State; we are fully in support of one Nigeria and we will not allow any self-serving group to come and disrupt the peace we are enjoying in this state.”

But in that rally, there was no disruption from anywhere. Those groups of non-existent Youths only concocted by PUNCH did not make any such statements rather youths from the nukes and crannies of Imo state and environs stormed the venue in jubilation of their freedom which they said was sacrosanct.

Also recently, a number of media groups in Nigeria, including Channels TV, gave a false reportage of the outcome of Nnamdi Kanu's honour of an invitation given to him by Ala-Igbo International Foundation presided by Professor Uzodimma Nwala.

In the said meeting, Nnamdi Kanu said, "IPOB is not a violent group. We are law abiding citizens of the society.

"What we hear today will guide us on the issue of Anambra election. I will go and meet with the leadership of IPOB"

The president of AIF, Professor Uzodimma Nwala, said, "As you see in our midst, you see our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we have come to discuss the issue of mutual concern, especially on Anambra election. We are happy he is here with us.

“As we know the IPOB decision on boycott of the election and you know that IPOB is an organised group and the agitation born out of marginalization of the Igbo.

“We are glad he has explained to us the reason they issued the boycott order and that it is not his personal decision but that of the IPOB leadership. We are meeting for the first time and will still meet again. No decision has been taken.”

But some media outlets reported falsely that IPOB has withdrawn its no election order.

Below are the headlines:

"IPOB withdraws threat to boycott Anambra election" - Daily Post Nigeria

IPOB withdraws threat to stop Anambra election - PUNCH Newspapers

IPOB Withdraws Threat To Stop Anambra Election - Independent

IPOB withdraws threat to disrupt Anambra elections — Daily Times Nigeria

IPOB Withdraws Threat To Stop Anambra Election  - Channels Television

And so on...

This false and fake reportage of IPOB events is stemming from the fact that on the 22nd of June, 2017, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo gathered a number of media practitioners and instructed them to use their offices/profession to bring down IPOB.

Those that were present at that meeting included very senior members of the Newspapers Association of Nigeria and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria: the publisher of Vanguard Newspaper; Uncle Sam Amuka, his Thisday counterpart; Nduka Obaigbena, Leadership publisher; Sam Nda Isaiah and Comfort Obi of The Source;

Others included Imoni Amarere and Olumide Oworu of Daar Communications, Fidelis Anosike of Daily Times and Abubakar Sidiq Usman of abusidiqu.com.

They met and concluded this strategy of false reportage to undermine the agitation for a Biafran state. And it is clearly evident in their reportage afterwards.

I'm therefore of the opinion that, 'for the media practitioners to have bought into such ideology or practice of false and fake reportage of IPOB events that are capable of disparaging their reputation, huge monetary benefits would have followed'. And it is a pity that even Channels tv bought into the practice.

If I were to say, there should be no monetary inducement that pays better than a good name. And no amount of false reportage will stop the restoration of Biafra because Biafra is ordained by God.
