Herdsmen Atrocities In Our Land Is Becoming Unbearable - Urhobo Monarchs Lament

UGHELLI-TWENTY-THREE monarchs out of the 25 Urhobo Kingdoms in Delta State have expressed worry and heavy frustrations over the activities of armed herdsmen in their domains with a call on the authorities to checkmate the killings.

Speaking on behalf of the monarchs at his palace during a courtesy visit by the Urhobo Security Network, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, HRM Richard Ogben, Ogoni-Oghoro I, described the activities of the herdsmen as worrisome and highly provocative, insisting that their activities must be checked by the state and federal governments because the herdsmen are now raping, killing and destroying farms with impunity without any arrest.

Commending the group for their concern, the monarch, said: "We will forward this (herdsmen attacks) matter to the Urhobo Progress Union for further action."
Earlier in his address, national co-coordinator of the group, Itoloden Daghware, explained that the body is worried over the mindless killings of Urhobos in their farms and places of work by armed herdsmen. He said that the Federal Government is acting unconcerned with all the herdsmen atrocities and maintained that the community shouldn't be victims in their own land. There is a need for self-defense against these invaders because it is clear that the government of the day is covertly supporting them.

He said: "Our objective is to assist the less privilege Urhobos to achieve their aim because it is evident that the Urhobos are worse hit in attacks by these armed Fulani herdsmen."
